CHD 164: Working with Infants and Toddlers in Inclusive Settings (3 Credits)
Overview

In this course, you will learn how to work with very young children and their families in ways that support their development. We will focus especially on children with special needs and how to include them in child care programs. You will learn by reading, participating in the Discussion Board with other students, watching videos of children, and creating materials to support children and families. What you learn in this course will benefit you by helping you to be a knowledgable and skillful early childhood professional, prepared to work with all children in positive and supportive ways.

Entry Level Competencies:
Functional literacy in the English language; reading at the 12th grade level.

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the federal legislation that provides for early intervention and
    prevention services.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of patterns of child development, including similarities and differences
    among children
  3. Demonstrate skill in setting up and maintaining an appropriate environment for inclusive care of
    very young children
  4. Demonstrate skills for working with young children to address individual needs
  5. Demonstrate competence in working with families and other professionals in systems of
    intervention and services for very young children.
