ENG 249 - Survey of Asian American Literature (3 CREDITS)
Overview

In this course, you will learn Asian American writings that dramatize the historical experience of Asian immigrants and their succeeding generations on the North American continent. You will learn by reading short stories, poems, plays and biographical excerpts, watching films and studying relevant theories. What you learn in this course will benefit you by helping you tranfer to other universities, fulfill the literature course requirement for the Liberal Arts Degree and, most importantly, develop your critical thinking skills and interest in global education.

If you complete this course and do well, you will be able to:

  • enjoy Asian American literary works with a deeper understanding
  • appreciate the literary works in relationship to the cultures that produced them and to evaluate their relevance and importance for current society
  • read literary texts for meaning, structure and style
  • develop critical reading, writing and thinking skills through the analysis of literary works
