In this course, you will learn how to effectively plan and mange their personal financial situation. This course presents a framework of money management concepts including establishing values and goals, determining sources of income, managing income, preparing a budget, developing consumer buying ability, using credit, understanding savings and insurance, providing for adequate retirement and estate planning.

If you successfully complete this course, you will be able to:
- Gain an overview of the personal finance spectrum.
- Communicate with personal finance experts and understand personal finance readings.
- Prepare a personal budget. Analyze the rent or buy situation.
- Analyze the rent or buy situation.
- Investigate your financial situation in order to select investment instruments.
- Develop a comprehensive personal insurance plan.
- Determine the effects of retirement on sources and uses of income.

There are three (3) proctored online exams and one (1) Take Home Exam in this course. The online exams are password protected and must be taken in one of the five NVCC campus Testing Centers. You can complete the Take Home Exam at home.

Beginning the Course |

1. Use your web browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Access your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to Blackboard at http://learn.vccs.edu.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start completing the assignments.
