FIN 107: Personal Finance (3 Credits)
Overview

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Presents a framework of money management concepts including establishing values and goals, determining sources of income, managing income, preparing a budget, developing consumer buying ability, using credit, understanding savings and insurance, providing for adequate retirement and estate planning.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

FIN 107 is a one semester elective course designed to provide the student with the knowledge necessary to effectively plan and mange their personal financial situation.

If you successfully complete this course, you will be able to:

  1. Gain an overview of the personal finance spectrum.
  2. Communicate with personal finance experts and understand personal finance readings.
  3. Prepare a personal budget.
  4. Analyze the rent or buy situation.
  5. Investigate your financial situation in order to select investment instruments.
  6. Develop a comprehensive personal insurance plan.
  7. Determine the effects of retirement on sources and uses of income.
