In this course, you will learn an introduction to UNIX.
What you learn in this course is applicable and often required knowledge in the IT field. We will focus on Sun Solaris version of UNIX.
Prerequisite : There are no special prerequisites for this class but some networking knowledge
is assumed.

- The lectures are available online. It is possible, however, that you may be on travel, be using a very slow link, or else would like to have a copy of the lectures. They are created using PowerPoint. If you have PowerPoint installed on your computers, simply download the lectures below and open them. Otherwise, first download and install the PowerPoint Viewer (below), and then you will be able to open the lectures. Remember they are always online and you do NOT need to download them. This is simply for your convenience.

Your course grade will be determined by your participation in forums and by your grades on problems, quizzes, and exams. Your final grade is YOUR total points divided by the total points you could have earned, converted to a percentage as detailed below:

There are 4 exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

Beginning the Course |

1. Use your web browser to connect to www. nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Log on to your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to your Blackboard account.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start completing the assignments.
Please note that account generation takes approximately one week from the time of your paid registration. If you cannot log on after one week, contact the IT Help Desk.
