Overview |

NUR 118 focuses on the nursing care of individuals and/or families throughout their lifespan; experience changes along the health/illness continuum that are common, well-defined, and have predictable outcomes. Content includes math computational skills; basic computer instruction related to the delivery of nursing; assessment and nursing care of the child; nursing care of reproductive health/disorders, pre/intra/postnatal childbearing family; and musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal disorders. Provides supervised learning experiences in college nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies.
Entry Level Competencies:
Prerequisites: SDV 101, NAS 161, NAS 162, ENG 111, HLT 141, NUR 111, PSY 201.
Co-requisites: NUR 150, PSY 202, HLT 250.

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:
- Review independently anatomy and physiology as it relates to appropriate body systems.
- Understand objectives that precede each required chapter and incorporate the chapter learning objectives.
- Describe nursing themes as they related to each area of content.
- Utilize P&P CD, I&W, and McKinney, et. al., and/or Evolve website as related to each chapter.
- Demonstrate nursing intervention skills appropriate to this level of practice.
- Describe the role and responsibilities of the nurse in the management of the pre-/intra/Postpartal childbearing family.
- Utilize the nursing process as a framework for care of the client with a gastrointestinal disorder.
- Utilize the nursing process as a framework for care of the client with a musculoskeletal disorder.
- Utilize the nursing process as a framework for care of the client with reproductive health disorders.
- Utilize critical thinking in managing client problems discussed this semester.
- Discuss the following concepts: safety, nutrition, pharmacology, communication, critical thinking and role of nurses as they relate to client problems studied this semester.

| Grading |

The final course grade is calculated based on all tests, exams and assignments. To progress to the next semester, students must achieve a minimum grade of 78% (C). Students must pass all components of the course, including clinical laboratory and campus laboratory, in order to pass pass the coure and progress in the nursing program.

Clinical Practice: Clinical practice is graded as Pass/Fail based on weekly student evaluations. Weekly evaluations are based on the ability of the student to meet stated clinical objectives. All clinical rotations must be passed in order to pass NUR 118. A minimum of 85% of clinical evaluation criteria must be completed with a grade of “S” (Satisfactory) in order to pass clinical.
Campus Lab: Campus lab is graded as Pass/Fail based on two skills tests that will be administered this semester.

There will be four tests in NUR 118, plus a comprehensive cumulative final exam. Tests 1 through 4 will be online using Blackboard. The midterm exam (test #3) and the final exam will be cumulative. The final exam will be completed at the Medical Education Campus.
