Overview

Studies research and casual theories of criminal behavior. Examines crime statistics, crime victims, and types of criminal offenses. Introduces role of police, judicial, and correctional system in treatment and punishment of offenders.

Objectives
 

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. Understand and be able to discuss crime in its broadest sense.
  2. Identify and discuss various key theoretical perspectives of crime.
  3. Identify the ways in which the social structure impacts on crime and how come affects the social structure.
  4. Apply a variety of methodological techniques to conduct research on crime and delinquency.
  5. Discuss the utility of methods of dealing with criminals including the "when, where, and how" of treatment.
