Task 2 - Read Thompson, The Trojan War, Chapters 1- 3.

• Go to the  TROY  Web Site, select the Homer Area from the menu on the left, and examine the various pages and links, including the Activities List.
• Read Thompson, The Trojan War, Chapters 1- 3,
• and then either read the etext of the Iliad by Homer or a paper copy of the Iliad.

There are many good translations that are much easier to read and enjoy than the etext version. I like the translations by Fagles or Lattimore best. Start by reading Book I. See the next task for points related to this reading. 

NOTE : Please read through all of Thompson, The Trojan War, Chapters 1-3 before reading the Iliad. I have prepared this material to help you to understand and enjoy the Iliad. Once you master Unit 1 on the Iliad, the rest of the course should be fairly easy to complete, because so many of the subsequent Troy Stories are based on characters and events in the Iliad.
