This course will continue to build upon the skills you have learned in Principles of Accounting I. It will explore the more complex areas of stockholder’s equity, accounting for Bonds, financial statement analysis, and introduce the area known as managerial accounting. The skills you learn from this course will serve as the foundation for numerous accounting and business courses that will follow. The accounting profession and those working in the business environment use the terms and accounting principles introduced in this course. You will be required to solve problems both manually and with the use of a microcomputer.
Prerequisite: ACC 212 or equivalent

Objectives |
|
If you do well in this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the basics of governmental and nonprofit accounting by students who are interested in accounting careers, interested in administration of governmental and nonprofit organizations or person employed in governmental and nonprofit administration or accounting, interested in retooling their concepts of Fund accounting.
- Identify and have a working knowledge of the eight major classes of funds and two account groups, used by governmental accounting to come up with financial reports.
- Gain a working knowledge of the budgetary systems used for financial planning control in governmental and nonprofit organizations.
- Appreciate and understand the differences between the governmental and nonprofit accounting principles and the generally accepted accounting principles used by for-profit organizations.
- Understand the file of the GASB and OMB in setting government accounting standards.

Exams |

There are four (4) online proctored exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.
