To receive a passing grade in the course a student MUST satisfactorily participate in and complete ALL assignments, forums, and assessments. A passing grade WILL NOT be given or issued when ALL work, forums and/or assessments have not been completed in the requisite time.  Students are expected to:
  • Satisfactorily participate in all  assignments and forum discussions.  Answer ALL questions providing definitive, well-thought-out responses to the questions.  Students will definitely benefit by reading and following the tips provided in the General Forum Information - read before posting to forums (found at the top of the forums section).
  • Respond to a significant number of their classmate's forum responses.
  • Complete and submit any (and all) specified homework and/or study assignments.
  • Participate by using on-line research and suggested web-links to gain further supplemental information.
  • All items (assignments, forums, assessments, etc.) need to be completed in sequence (no skipping around).

Assignment, Quiz, and Examination Values.   There are sixteen (16) weekly forum assignments. The majority of these involve preparing responses to several discussion questions regarding criminal justice related issues. They may, or may not, correspond to your assigned chapter reading.  Be prepared to do a little thinking and research.  Each of the sixteen forum assignments will have a maximum value of twenty (20) points each.  There is an additional web page assignment during the first week which also has a maximum value of twenty (20) points.

  • Obviously, incomplete or deficient assignments will have appropriate points deducted.
  • After a reasonable period of time has passed (usually a week or so), I start downgrading (giving lower points) for late submitted work.
  • I also will not accept LATE work for ANY credit when it is submitted within the last two weeks of the scheduled course end date. Note: that is LATE work, NOT work that has been assigned and is scheduled and due during the last two weeks of the course.
  • Total value of the weekly assignments = 340 possible points.
There will be eight on-line quizzes that you will take from home.
  • These will be spaced out over the course of the semester.
  • Each of these quizzes will be computer generated and randomly selected from a larger pool of questions taken from your assigned reading and study materials.
  • Each of these eight quizzes will have a maximum value of one hundred (100) points each.
  • Total value of quizzes = 800 possible points.
On-campus examinations.  [Yes, I do know how much of a pain in the tuchas (tail) it is for you to travel to campus BUT on-campus, monitored exams are required by the college/university accreditations organization.]
  • There will be two (2) of them.
  • They are very similar to the quizzes.  They are computer generated, usually randomly selected from a larger pool of questions from your assigned reading and study materials.
  • Your quizzes actually do serve as primers, study guides, etc. for the on-campus exams. You may even see a few of the very same questions.
  • Each of these on campus exams will have a maximum value of one hundred (100) points each.
  • Total value of on campus exams = 200 possible points.
  • This amounts to a possible total of 1340 points from all of the assignment, quiz, and examination activities (provided that all of the assigned activities are thoroughly and satisfactorily completed).
  • Please Note: All grades in my courses are always based upon the actual total of all points that were earned.
