This course presents a broad introduction to legal environment of U.S. business. Develops a basic understanding of contract law, agency, and government regulation. It is the first of two semester courses designed to familiarize the business student with the relationships of law and business enterprises. This segment is designed to explain the origins and purposes of law in general. It is also designed to give the student a practical understanding of Contracts, Sales, Agency, and Employment Law. The course is required in the Business Management, Accounting, Marketing, and Real Estate curricula.

Objectives |

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the role of law in society and the business environment.
- Describe the function of the legal adviser as part of the management team and the business community.
- Enhance your managerial potential by learning to recognize legal problems and solutions common to business activities.
- Be better able to cope with future career related legal problems.
- Become conversant with the essentials of law in drafting and executing contracts.
- Identify the law of sales.
- Acquire a working knowledge of the legal basis of warranty of goods.
- Identify the legal principles involving consumer-merchant transactions.
- Apply the legal aspects of product liability to case studies.
- Identify the laws pertaining to principal-agent relationships.
- Be able to differentiate the liability variations in agency relationships.

Beginning the Course |

1. Use your web browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Access your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to Blackboard at http://learn.vccs.edu.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start completing the assignments.
