EGR 265 Digital Electronics and Logic Design - 4 credits
Professor: Dr. Rassa Rassai

Overview

This course teaches number representation in digital systems; Boolean algebra; design of digital circuits, including gates, flip-flops, counters, registers, architecture, microprocessors, and input-output devices.

Entry Level Competencies: Students should have a competence in circuit anaylsis.

The software used in this course is "ELECTRONICS WORKBENCH".  You can either buy this software or come to AN campus, CT building, 1st floor and use our computers in the open computer LAB. The software also has a TUTORIAL.  Please contact the instructor, rrassai@nvcc.edu, or Tri Doan, (703) 323-3487, tdoan@nvcc.edu, if you need further help in constructing the circuits, or visit our physical laboratory which  is located on the Annandale campus CT 306 (by appointment please). Click here for directions to lab.

Objectives

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. Design logical circuits at the Boolean functional level and realize these designs in modern digital electronic integrated circuit building blocks.
  2. Be familiar with the architecture and circuitry of microprocessors.
  3. Have laboratory experience in working with these circuits.
  4. Understand the means of electrical realization of Boolean functions used in computers and other digital devices.

Total Points
500

Option #2: Drop lowest exam grade and take final exam:

Grading Option #2
Points
3 exams @ 100 points each
300
10 lab experiments @ 10 points each
100
Final exam
200
Total Points
600

Grading Scale

Exams

There are 4 proctored exams and/or a final exam in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers (Note: ELI exams are not given at the Medical Education Campus.) Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

For Testing Center locations, hours of operation and policies, click here.
