Provides instruction and practice in the use of high intermediate and advanced academic English grammar structures including advanced verb forms, clauses, determiners, and prepositions. Helps ESL students assess their own knowledge of English grammar, improve accuracy, and learn methods to improve editing. Credits are not applicable toward graduation. Lecture 3 hours per week.

To give high-intermediate to advanced level ESL students the opportunity to practice and refine grammar skills with regard to the requirements of American college courses.

Prerequisite: An English placement test recommendation for ESL Level 4 or higher or successful completion of ESL 31.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify and use gerunds and infinitive structure
2. Identify and correctly structure clauses and phrases
3. Identify and correctly use determiners and prepositions
4. Identify and use passive voice.

To participate in online office hours using Blackboard Collaborate, you will need a microphone and headset.

Possible Assignments Include: (Subject to change each semester. The actual assignments are available in the Syllabus in the Blackboard course site on the first day of classes.)

Your final grade will be based on the following scale. Please note that you must also pass at least one of the two exams in order to pass the course, regardless of your scores on the other assignments.

PLEASE NOTE: Your final grade will either be "S" (Satisfactory), "R"(Retake), or "U" (Unsatisfactory).
