This course introduces the student to the organization and management of a fire department and the relationship of government agencies to the fire service. Emphasis is on fire service leadership from the perspective of the company officer.
Entry Level Competencies: FST 100 - Principles of Emergency Services or Firefighter 1 and 2. English 111 or a suitable alternative, fire service is also recommended. Please contact the instructor if you have any questions.

Objectives |

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:
- Identify career development opportunities and strategies for success.
- Explain the need for effective communication skills both written and verbal.
- Articulate the concepts of span of control, effective delegation, and division of labor.
- Recognize appropriate praising and disciplinary actions and the impact on employee behavior.
- Examine the history and development of management and supervision.
- Evaluate methods of managing available resources.
- Identify roles responsibilities.
- Explain how building construction relates to pre-fire planning.
- Describe the main steps taken during incident size-up and in the appropriate order.
- Given a scenario, establish an Incident Command organization chart with appropriate resources to mitigate or reach a controlled conclusion.
