HIM 226 is designed to help you learn the legal requirements associated with health record documentation and the policies and procedures concerning release of medical information.
Prerequisites
- Enrollment in the Health Information Management (HIM) Program
- Completion of HIM 141 or permission of the instructor.

Objectives |
|
If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

Acquire knowledge of the regulations, standards and policies governing record retention;

Develop an awareness of the importance of the health record as a legal document;

Appreciate the confidential nature of primary and secondary health records;

Understand major issues in federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards;

Appreciate the importance of ethical standards in the delivery of health care;

Develop skill in releasing confidential information to responsible parties; and
-
Demonstrate competence in developing/revising policies and procedures for the release of information.
