HIS121 United States History I

Professor: Jud Sage

Overview

HIS 121, United States History I, covers American history from colonization and settlement through the American Civil war, or “War Between the States.” Although American history has roots deep in western civilization, we will concentrate on the events which occurred in North America leading up to and beginning with the settlement of Jamestown in 1607. We will carry that study through the American Revolution and on to the Civil War, which ended in 1865, but whose effects are still around. The web site for the course can be found at http://www.sagehistory.net/.The course is divided into three chronological sections as follows:

  • Parts 1 & 2: Colonial and Revolutionary History,
    1607-1800
  • Parts 3 & 4: Jeffersonian & Jacksonian Democracy through Civil War

Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites for this course, but you should be aware that this course involves intensive reading and writing at a level sufficient to enter ENG 111.
