States History II
covers American history from Reconstruction to the recent past
(approximately 1990). The web site for the course can be found at http://www.academicamerican.com/
The course is
divided into four chronological parts as follows:
-
Part 1: America from 1865-1900
-
Part 2: America Looks Outward, 1890-1916
-
Part 3: America 1920-1945
- Part 4: Postwar America, 1945-1990
Prerequisite : There are no prerequisites
exist for this course, but it requires intensive reading and good
writing. You should be able to read and write at a level sufficient
to complete ENG 111. If your reading and writing skills are not yet
ready to do college work, your grade will no doubt reflect that fact.
Computer skills are essential and you will be expected to participate
through the Internet in addition to your presence in class. In addition,
you should be able to:
- send and receive email,
including attaching files or opening attached files;
- participate in an online forum; and
- access resources on the World
Wide Web and know how to document those sources.

Objectives

Upon completing this
course, you will understand how America changed after the Civil War and how
the great movements and events of the 19th and 20th centuries transformed
America into a modern industrial superpower.

Your course grade will
be determined by two proctored online exam: Midterm and Final, one (1) research paper, three (3) short essays, and participation in
online discussion forums.

Exams
|

There are
two (2) online exams in this course. You are expected to take your
examinations in sequence at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time
to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers
have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You
will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the
appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

Beginning
the Course
|

1. Use your web
browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart.
Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account
user names and passwords.
2. Access your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will
be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to Blackboard at http://learn.vccs.edu.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire
course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start
completing the assignments.
5. The web site for the course can be found at http://www.academicamerican.com/
Please note that
account generation takes approximately one week from the time of your paid
registration. If you cannot log on after one week, contact the IT Help Desk. If you can
