HLT 220: Concepts of Disease (3 Credits)
Overview

This course is designed to enable those of you who are enrolled in the massage therapy program and others about common human pathologies and injuries.  It covers common infectious and non-infectious diseases in the U.S. and indications and contraindications for massage therapy.

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  • Differentiate between acute and chronic disease; infectious and non-infectious disease

  • Apply the concept of infection transmission and control to specific disease states
  • Identify principles determining indications and contraindications for massage therapy
  • Identify guidelines for planning appropriate client treatment based on pathological diseases and injuries

Each activity will receive a numerical grade. Final grades will be determined by the total of all activity grades and will be based upon the following scale:

A = 101 - 90
B = 89 - 80
C = 79 - 70
D = 69 - 60
F = 59 and below
