ITD 132 : Structured Query Language-3 Credits

Overview

Provides a general working introduction to software for database management. Course covers planning, defining, and using a database; performing queries; creating forms; producing reports; working with multiple files.

Prerequisite: ITE 115 - Basic Computer Literacy or equivalent
You are expected to work at least 4-6 hours each week in order to complete the assigned activities

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. Identify and discuss database techniques.
  2. Discuss microcomputer DBMS fundamentals, capabilities, limitations, applications and problems
  3. Plan and define a microcomputer DBMS application
  4. Create and use a microcomputer DBMS application
  5. Perform queries against a database using a microcomputer DBMS query language
  6. Create forms to access a database
  7. Produce reports from a database
  8. Sequence the database
  9. Recognize the need for and work with multiple databases
  10. Interchange data with other applications

Grading
 

Your course grade will be determined by assignments and 3 exams according to the following points:

GRADING SCALE
100 - 90 = A
89 - 80 = B
79 - 70 = C
69 - 60 = D
59 and below = F

PERCENTAGES
Exam 1 - 15%
Exam 2 - 15%
Exam 3 - 20%
Assignments- 50%

NOTE: There are three (3) exams throughout this course.

Exams

 

There are three (3) exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

Beginning the Course

 

1. Use your web browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Access your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to Blackboard at http://learn.vccs.edu.
