ITE 170 - Multimedia Software - 3 Credits

Overview

 

In this course, you will learn how to use the selected applications and apply what you have learned to create a web site. As you progress through the lectures and practice activities, you will be provided instruction on how to use Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks, three powerful web development tools that are part of Adobe's Creative Suite software package. All exercises and assignments have been designed to support students who use the latest version of these Adobe products and some earlier versions that were part of the Macromedia web development software suite.

The course focuses on design considerations that should be made when preparing to build a web site then apply these design techniques when building your own web site. As part of your learning experience, you will be evaluated on your ability to apply design techniques that are covered early in the course content.

What you learn in this course will benefit you by applying skills and knowledge used to create professional looking web sites. The following list summarizes the activities, resources and strategies we will use:

Prerequisite : Before taking this course, students must be able to read and write at the college level and must have a working knowledge of the WINDOWS environment.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • List and describe the components of a multimedia PC
  • Identify important hardware specifications of a multimedia PC
  • Describe different types of multimedia software
  • Identify potential multimedia applications
  • Identify Multimedia formats and describe advantages and disadvantages
  • Discuss the distribution of multimedia applications including copyright and licensing
  • Use three applications to develop a simple web site

Materials

 


There are no required textbooks for this course.  However, students are encouraged to browse and select a reference that fits their personal learning  needs.

Students are required to purchase or have access to Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash.  The Academic Versions and trial downloads are acceptable.  However, please note that trial downloads can only be used for 30 days before expiring. 

For assignments requiring a written document, students must also own or have access to Microsoft Word.

Exams

 


There are 4 exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

Beginning the Course

 


1. Use your web browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Log on to your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to your Blackboard account.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start completing the assignments.

Please note that account generation takes approximately one week from the time of your paid registration. If you cannot log on after one week, contact the IT Help Desk.
