ITN 245: Network Troubleshooting (3 Credits)

Overview


This course is the replacement for IST 206 under the old numbering system or any of ITN 112, ITN 115, ITN 116, or ITN 117 under the new numbering system.

In this course, you will learn details of:

DNS, Access Control, Network Security, Remote Access, Network Protocols, Routing, and much more.

Prerequisite: IST 203 or ITN 111 or equivalent is required for this course. TCP/IP (IST 208 or ITN 208) is recommended but not required.

If you complete this course and do well, you will be able to:

  • Understand, troubleshoot, and work with DNS
  • Understand TCP/IP implementation in Windows 2003
  • Understand DHCP, WINS, DDNS, and how they interact and work together
  • Understand how to design and build a Windows network using TCP/IP
  • Learn to configure and troubleshoot Remote Access in Windows 2003
  • Understand RADIUS as implemented in Windows 2003
  • Understand and implement Routing in Windows 2003

There are 4 exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

Beginning the Course

 


1. Use your web browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Access your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to Blackboard at http://learn.vccs.edu.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start completing the assignments.
