Objectives

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. Analyze a variety of algorithm implementation problems relating to various business and organizations.
  2. Identify and sequence the phases of the program development cycle as well as the purpose, tools and products of each.
  3. Apply structured and object oriented design techniques to a variety of algorithm implementation problems relating to various businesses and organization.
  4. Integrate fundamental design control structures into program design.
  5. Apply fundamental object-oriented principles to program design.
  6. integrate appropriate modularization techniques into program design.
  7. Participate in individual as well as (project) team program design exercises.
  8. Use the basic control structures to design the logic required to:
    • accept input (file, interactive).
    • create output (file, report, screen).
    • perform simple calculations and accumulations.
    • include simple, nested, and sequential decisions.
    • include leading decision and trailing decision loops, both simple and nested.
    • implement array concepts in design to include loading, accessing, searching, and listing.
    • implement event-driven concepts in design.
  9. Participate in a structured design walkthrough
  10. Create effective test data to check program logic.

Exams

There are four proctored exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

For Testing Center locations, hours of operation and policies, click here.

For information on taking exams outside of the metropolitan area, click here.
