This course teaches the necessary abilities in statistics and probability to understand the results of statistical studies and to perform descriptive and basic inferential statistical studies with the areas of interest. This course covers descriptive statistics, elementary probability, probability distribution, estimation, and hypothesis testing.
Prerequisite: Satisfactory score on an appropriate proficiency examination or completion of MTH 152 Math for the Liberal Arts II, MTH 163 Precalculus I or MTH 182 Finite Mathematics II

- Organize raw data into a frequency distribution.
- Compute measures of central tendency and interpret the results.
- Compute measures of variation and interpret the results.
- Identify and graph symmetric and asymmetric distributions.
- Compute standard scores.

There are 2 proctored exams in this course. You are expected to take your examinations at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.

Inactive Students Dropped: Inactive students who have not completed at least one quiz within five weeks of enrollment date will be administratively withdrawn without tuition refund. You will receive a grade of W.
Last Date for Withdrawal:
This is the last date on which you can withdraw from this course without grade penalty. Use the NovaConnect online or telephone registration system to drop the course, or send a written request to ELI Registration so that it is received by this date. You will also be administratively withdrawn (without tuition refund) and will receive a grade of W if you do not complete at least five quizzes and the Midterm Exam by this date. |

Beginning the Course |

1. Use your web browser to connect to http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart. Follow the directions to determine your email, Blackboard and VIVA account user names and passwords.
2. Access your email account and make sure you know how to use it; you will be required to use this account for all course-related email.
3. Log on to Blackboard at http://learn.vccs.edu.
4. Click on this course under "My Courses." Review the entire course to make sure you understand what will be required of you. Then start completing the assignments.
