NAS 162 Health Science II is the second semester of a two-semester sequence (NAS 161 Health Science I and NAS 162 Health Science II - 4 credits each).

It integrates anatomy and physiology of cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the human body. It also covers important infectious diseases of organ systems. This course is an introductory college transfer level offering designed to meet the anatomy, physiology and microbiology needs of students pursuing programs in nursing and applied health sciences.

Prerequisite : Students need a passing grade in NAS 161 - Health Science 1 or instructor approval.

Requires completing assignments on a fixed schedule, with some mid-week deadlines. Requires online collaboration in group assignments. Requires completing CD lab simulations.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

1. Gain the background knowledge needed to perform adequately in a selected health technology field.
2. Demonstrate through examinations that he has acquired a sound understanding of the structure and functioning of the normal human body and the disturbances to be expected from the more common pathological conditions.
3. Acquire a general familiarity with the principles of microbiology in order to understand the role of microorganisms in pathology.
4. Provide the foundation for sound knowledge of sterile techniques.

Your course grade will be determined by your performance on seven lecture exams, participation in discussion forums and on one team project, according to the following points:

*NOTE: There are 9 quizzes throughout this course that you will have 1 opportunity to complete online on your honor (i.e., without the use of any of additional assistance). These quizzes are interactive (i.e., your answer is graded immediately and upon completion at the end of the quiz you are informed of your correct and incorrect answers). If your answer is incorrect, you will receive information regarding where you need to go in your text and/or study guide to get the correct information. Each quiz is worth 5 pts. What this means is that if you answer all the questions correctly on all of the quizzes, then you will have 45  points added to your final score.

There are 7 online exams in this course. You are expected to take your online exams at one of the NVCC campus Testing Centers. Be sure to allow enough time to complete your exam before the Testing Center closes; Testing Centers have specific policies relating to the administration of ELI exams. You will need to take a photo ID, your NovaConnect empl ID number, and the appropriate Exam Pass when you go to the Testing Center.
