PHT 231: Photojournalism I (3 Credits)
Overview

This course introduces techniques, skills, and concepts of photojournalism. In addition, this course teaches photography for features, spot news, and photo essays while emphasizing editing, captioning, and layout.

Entry Level Competencies: PHT 102 or equivalent.

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. make documentary and narrative photographs
  2. solve problems of form, content, and impact
  3. shoot in available light
  4. plan and shoot a compelling and ethical photo essay
  5. edit, caption, and present photographs in a professional manner
  6. discuss photojournalism issues and images

In addition to the text, you will need to have a digital camera or a film camera & scanner(to create electronic copies) to complete the photography assignments.
