RUS 102: Beginning Russian II (5 Credits)

Overview

In this course, you will learn the rest of Russian.  In Russian 101 you were introduced to the first three cases.  In this course you learn the rest of the cases and get to practice with all of them.  You will also practice working with the verbs in all of their forms.  In short, when you complete this course you will have covered all of Russian!  Beyond this course you build vocabulary, enhance your abilities to use the Russian forms automatically, and learn to discuss more topics than those covered in Rusisan 101 and 102.  In short, by completing Russian 102 you are ready to speak, read, write and understand Russian!

You will learn by spending time with Russian.  We have an eNova session once a week, during which you will be able to ask questions, practice writing and speaking Russian, and get to know others studying Russian at NOVA.  You will also work with the textbook Голоса, do exercises in the student manual, do some five small quizzes a week in BlackBoard, and explore the Internet.  The more time you spend with Russian, the more Russian you will learn!

What you learn in this course will benefit you by giving you a solid foundation in the language.  At the end of this course you are ready to speak Russian with friends and relatives, use it on the job, or continue your studies at NOVA or another one of Virginia's fine Universities!  While you won't be fluent yet, you will have the basics to move you in that direction.
