Wiki Directions

What is a Wiki?

A wiki (Hawaiian for "quick") is a tool for creating a web site quickly and easily with multiple authors. You can read more about wikis here.

How to Log On

  1. Find the web address and password of your group's wiki in the group discussion forum.
  2. Navigate to the web address with your web browser.
  3. Enter the wiki password, your name, and your student email address in the Authenticate page. Do this each time you use the wiki so that I will know that you contributed to the project.
  4. Uncheck the Notify me of changes box unless you want to get an email every time somebody in your group makes a change to the site.
  5. Click the Log In! button.

How to View the Site

When you log on, you will see the web site home page. You can scroll through the page to read text and see pictures, and you can click links to other pages, as you would on any web site. Your site will be empty, of course, until you or someone else in the group puts text or pictures on the page.

How to Edit the Pages

Click on the Edit page button near the top of the home page. This will take you to the editing window. Here, you can add formatted text, pictures, links to new pages, links to files, and tables. The Style Help link to the right of the editing window tells you how to do all of these things. When you are finished editing, click the Save or Cancel button to return to the home page

Privacy

I will set the wiki to be password protected so that only you and I can view it. Please don't change this or any other setting. When you are finished and I have had a chance to review the site, I will change it to public so that others in the class can view it.
