VET 212: Animal Diseases II (2 Credits)

Overview

You must have been accepted to the online veterinary technology program at NVCC and be program placed in order to take this course

.Vet 212, Animal Diseases II is a 2 credit course which discusses common diseases affecting large animals, disease management and prevention.  Focus will be placed on diseases that are zoonotic, emerging infectious diseases, as well as foreign animal diseases.  Upon completion of this course, the student should have the ability to communicate to clients the basic information concerning medical care and prevention of disease, as well as a greater understanding of large animal practice and the role of the LVT in that practice

  • Vet 105 Introduction to Veterinary Technology
  • Vet 111 Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals
  • Vet 116 Breeds and Behavior
  • Vet 121 Clinical Practices I 
  • Vet 211 Animal Diseases I
  • Vet Math 126 Mathematics for Allied Health

Objectives

 

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. List the major causes of infectious and noninfectious diseases in the dog and cat
  2. Recognize the diseased animal by alterations in normal behavior and physical appearance
  3. List, by systems, the typical signs of disease displayed by affected animals
  4. Describe the common laboratory tests and techniques involved in diagnosis
  5. List the common zoonotic agents and their significance
  6. Describe a program for the optimal prevention and control of disease in the dog and cat
  7. Describe the technician's role in the management of the diseases presented
  8. Provide the client education involved for the diseases presented
