You must have been accepted to the online veterinary technology program at NVCC and be program placed in order to take this course. In this course, you will learn the basic concepts of business procedures of veterinary practice, including communication skills, office management, record keeping and the use of computers in veterinary practice

Objectives

 

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  • understand the technician's role in generating income in the veterinary practice   
  • understand the basics of the management and business aspects of veterinary practice
  • recognize the various management areas of the veterinary clinic and possible management roles for the technician in those areas
  • improve understanding and communication skills between technicians and clients, veterinarians and hospital personnel
  • explore personal management issues for veterinary technicians including stress management, self knowledge, goal setting, resume writing and interviewing skills
  • discuss emerging issues and the changing climate of veterinary practice
  • describe and evaluate how the computer is used in veterinary practice
