I've put together this list because some of the books you may want to read for this course may be hard to find or even out of print, such as Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Firebrand. But, with the amazing world of online booksellers, you can find almost any book at a reasonable price. I searched several of these sites for The Firebrand, and found many copies, ranging in price from $0.85 to over $20.00.

Be sure, if you order online, that the seller offers a secure site for your credit card information, or arrange to mail in an order if you don't feel that online ordering is secure.

Allow more time to get books this way; some new books ship in a day or two; out of print ones may take quite a bit longer.

AddAll: Book searching and price comparison. I've used them many times and saved a good deal of money by doing so. It ranks books by cost of book plus cost of shipping. It also does used book searches.

Advanced Book Exchange: Bills itself as "World's Largest Source of Out of Print Books - Over 5300 Booksellers - 15 million titles listed."

Amazon.com: A huge selection of in-print books. They now have so-called Z-shops, where independent booksellers offer out of print books. For example, I searched for Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Firebrand, which is currently out of print, and came up with eight booksellers offering copies at varied prices.

Barnes&Noble.com: A very large stock of new books; also a used book search feature.

Bibliofind: "More than ten million used and rare books, periodicals and ephemera offered for sale by thousands of booksellers around the world."

Bookfinder.com: "This is a book shopping search engine that scans bookseller databases to find new, used, rare, and out of print books."

Half.com: a listing of over three million used books, many at very attractive prices. According to the site, it is being acquired by eBay. A great place to look for out of print paperbacks.

The Online Books Page: From U. Penn. Lists over one million free e-texts of books on the Internet and all sorts of interesting information about online books.

Powell's Books: "The largest used and new bookstore in the world." Many copies of out of print books at various, fair prices.
