Course Timelines

Important Dates

The one page Quick Start Syllabus you received by mail has your personal important dates on it. Please review them now.

Your Start date and your End of Enrollment date are 16 weeks apart. That's the length of a normal semester, and the time in which you are expected to complete this course.

Your Last Refund date is the last day you can withdraw from this course and receive a refund of the tuition.

Your first deadline is Week 5.  You must have completed your first essay and received a grade for it by then or I'll have to withdraw you from the course.  That means that you must have submitted and received my approval for your thesis and your first draft and have received a grade for the finished essay by week 5.

Your Last Withdrawal date is the last day you can withdraw from this course. If you have not completed the first two required essays in this class by your withdrawal date, I will have to withdraw you from the class.

If you have not completed the course by your end-date, you may ask for an incomplete in the course if you have already completed half of the coursework by that date.  In this class you must have written and posted final copies of the three genre essays and have taken 1 exam to qualify for an incomplete.  If you have not done so, you are ineligible for an incomplete in the course.

Please refer to the Course Progress section of ELI Policies and Procedures for additional information.

Suggested Schedule of Units
ELI courses are designed for students with busy and often  irregular schedules. Therefore, I do not require all assignments to be completed by fixed due dates.   However, you must complete the first essay (thesis, draft, and final) within 5 weeks of your start date.

16-Week Timeline of Units

The schedule below is designed to help you space the work so that you can finish the course in 16 weeks.

Research shows that students are most successful with distance education when they start their course work immediately and make steady progress. To help you do this, I suggest that you try to follow the timeline below. Base the weeks on your specific enrollment dates shown on the first page of the Quick Start Syllabus that was mailed to you.

Introduction
2 -3 Drama essay
4 - 7 Fiction essay
8 - 10 Poetry essay
