I have included for your reading in this course some examples of romantic poetry from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Even though there is no specific assignment due on these poems, I did want to give you a flavor of the kind of writing and emotional and intellectual thought processes that were going on during the Romantic movement. Some of the language might appear dated to the modern reader, but it is still obvious that most of these poems focus on nature, emotions and the environment and, as such, they were a clear repudiation of the emphasis that the Enlightenment and Scientific Revolution placed on a factual analysis of the world outside. Please remember also that the Romantic movement swept through all the arts, including painting, literature, music, philosophy, etc.
