  • Read my notes on the future?
  • Study the Questions to Consider and the Key Terms for the unit.
  • Post (or respond) your thoughts/ideas about this unit's reading and assignment in the Blackboard online discussion forum. Do not post your assignment there.
  • Take the Final Exam.

  • Listen to some further information about this unit as a mp3 file.  You can also read the information as a txt file.
  • Take a look at the notes on the Dair Mar Elia monastery in Iraq. These were done by Joe Costigan, a student in HIS 111.

Extra Credit Options
  • Take the short 5-point quiz for chapter 29. Log into Blackboard and look under "Chapter Quizzes." You have five minutes to complete each quiz (multiple-choice questions).
  • Comment in a long paragraph on the validity/accuracy/relevance of the characteristics of "civilization" according to François Pierre Guillaume Guizot, a nineteenth-century French historian, for a maximum of 25 points.
  • For extra credit of a maximum of 25 points, write a short paragraph in which you explain why you think it is important to study history (check these two links for more information, Historians and Why we study history).
  • For extra credit, please suggest a relevant website for this unit of the course.  Send the title of the site, the url and a brief explanation why you find the information interesting and applicable to the material being studied this unit.
  • Suggest an assignment for use somewhere in the course.  Be creative!
  • For extra credit of a maximum of ten points, write a short paragraph in which you explain what you found most interesting about your study of history in HIS 102 (or what you liked most about the course).

Congratulations on your successful completion of HIS 102!  I hope that you will continue your study of history in one of my other courses such as HIS 101, HIS 111, HIS 112, HIS 135, HIS 241 or HIS 242.
