Chapter 12 describes the components, functions and resource allocation functions of an operating system. It describes the mechanisms by which an operating system manages programs and processes, the CPU and memory.
Chapter 13 describes the components and operation of the file management system, the logical and physical organization of files and directories, the operations that manipulate data, files and directories and the mechanisms used to share and protect files.
