 Verbal Communication

Kenneth Burke defined humans, in part, as "symbol-using, symbol misusing animals. By understanding theories of language, we can also appreciate how verbal communications work and how misunderstandings, verbal abuse and language bias may cause problems in interpersonal relationships. This section provides a variety of different approaches to the study of verbal communication. The section for competencies and resources provides links for dictionaries and tools for understanding language use.
