The Chronological Record
The portfolio is a document about you and what you have learned from your life experiences. Another step in this process, as you continue remembering what those experiences have been, is preparing a "Chronological Record." The Chronological Record is a year-by-year account of what you have been doing since high school. For each year, list what you consider to be the important happenings in your life.

You might include:

  • employment military status
  • schools attended
  • seminars/workshops
  • volunteer involvement
  • major life events (marriage, birth of children, relocations, divorce, deaths in family)
The format is simple - one or two sentences, starting with an action verb, describing the important events of that year. Indicate both city and state location. Preparing your Chronological Record will take time. Initially it may be difficult to determine dates and events for the years since high school. The more information you include, the more helpful your Chronological Record will be as you identify significant learning experiences. The more information you remember, the better chance you will have of receiving credit for your work and life experiences.
