Textbook and Materials
The required textbooks and materials for this course are:
- Mathematics for the Health Sciences: A Comprehensive Approach by Joel Helms. ISBN: 9781435441101
- For specific information on acquiring textbooks, see the bookstore information below.
- NOTE: Ignore the "Edition 10" notation on the bookstore website. Currently, there is only one edition of this text.
- You may also choose to purchase the following optional textbook, which has an excellent approach for doing dosage calculations:
Nursing Math Simplified ("Math Magic"), Susan Moore, H&H Publishing Company
- You will need a scientific calculator, with a "log" button. You do not need (and will not be allowed to use) a graphing calculator.
- You will want to have a calculator to save time on routine arithmetic calculations (first be sure you know how to do all types of calculations by hand, but no one likes to spend a lot of time doing just routine arithmetic). You will be allowed to use a calculator on all quizzes and exams.
- If your calculator has a feature which automatically converts from one measurement unit to another (such as pounds to kilograms), you should not use this feature while in this course. You need to understand and perform the conversion process yourself, when you are provided with the appropriate conversion factors.
