Course Grades
Your course grade will be determined by assignments and assessments, according to the following percentages. Please be sure to read the information on plagiarism in the syllabus.
This is a serious offense and should always be avoided.
I suggest you print this page and put in your notebook or textbook so you have details of points needed for each grade plus details on service learning.

Grading Scale
NOVA Online proctored or major assessments are required to maintain compliance with our accreditation standards and the Higher Education Act’s identity verification requirements for online courses. College-wide, proctored or major assessments must prove identity. To accomplish this in online courses, students must show overall passing levels on the proctored or major assessments in order to pass the course.
In this online course, if your average score on all proctored or major assessments is a passing percentage of 60 percent or higher, then your grade will be calculated according to the scale in the table below. Otherwise, a final grade of F will be assigned.
Your final grade will be based on the following scale.

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: Any assignment that is late will lose 10 points and assignments over a week late will not be accepted without prior approval . Be sure to keep up and not lose points.
Inactive students who have not completed at least two assignments by the inactive date (see overview of assignments in the syllabus) will be withdrawn. If there is a
problem with this or anytime in the course contact your professor right away, not after deadlines. You need to be proactive in your courses just as you need to be in
business. Dropping from this course by yourself or the professor may affect your status (veteran, financial aid, student visa, etc).
Service Learning - 70 points. You may earn 10 points for every hour of approved service learning you complete up to 7 hours. Please get approval by the third week of
the course, before completing service learning if you want to earn points for this class.
The service learning needs to be community service (not training) for a not for profit company or a community service event put on by a company. If you participate in
a company's community service activity, you need to tie the experience to something you have learned in this class. While performing the community service you may ask
business questions, etc. You may perform some duties for a not for profit company, a school, a church, a chamber of commerce or better business bureau. Get my approval
by week three before performing the service to make sure you will be given credit. To receive credit, submit the dates and times you volunteered, a summary of what service
you gave, how it relates to travel and your evaluation of the activity. (i.e. How did this help you professionally?). Please submit all of your service learning at one
time no later than week 7 on the discussion board under "Service Learning". If you know of places for students to volunteer, please post them on the Service Learning
discussion board and on the Open Forum Discussion Board, but remember to check with me for approval for service learning prior to serving if you want credit for this class.
You may submit your service learning on the discussion board as soon as you have completed the number of hours for which you want credit. Hopefully you will enjoy this and
feel you are helping others and serve more than 7 hours. Think of charities you support or volunteer activities that you would like to do. This is not working in travel,
but community service. It does not have to be travel related but of course that would be nice. Please contact me right away if you need any clarification on service learning.
Write a reflection (on the discussion board when your post your hours and experience) on how you will apply what you learned from the experience(s) to your future career.
You may earn up to 850 points for the entire course. There are a few opportunities for a few extra credit points (on assessments, when you request the service learning if by week
three). When students ask to complete extra credit in a course (usually at the end of the course), I say my philosophy is if you cannot do the required work, I don't think
you have time for extra credit (except in cases where I give you an opportunity to do so). Final grades will be assigned according to the total number of points you have
earned. If you keep track of your points, you can always tell how close you are to earning the grade you desire.
The articles, assignments and web discussions are worth up to 20 points each toward your total score in this course. The self introduction is worth up to 10 points and
the interview is worth up to 40 points. Service Learning is worth up to 70 points. The quality of the assignments determines the number of points you earn for each
assignment up to the maximum number of possible points. Please ask (first on the open forum) if you don't understand an assignment. The open forum is a good way to
communicate with your classmates. If your fellow students cannot answer your question(s), please email me.
Assignments are due by the last night of the week they are due. Remember if an assignment is late, you will lose 10 points but will be graded if submitted no later
than one week after the due date.
