Welcome to ENG 111/ENF 3, College Composition I with Preparing for College English III, offered by Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Online. ENG 111 and ENF 3 combine to form a five credit course designed to help you to read closely, analyze complex ideas, form your own opinions, and then express and defend your ideas in writing. Through systematic practice, you will learn to read actively, and to develop, write, revise, and edit your essays.

This class requires reliable internet access. You will be required to access a free and online text called Writing for Success (Links to an external site.) You will also be assigned various essays, videos, and articles in the form of link.

In this course, you will read and write about a variety of issues related to current events, such as why professors should or should not use trigger warnings in class. Then, you will reflect on your own experience as a student and consider why students drop out of college, and why people seek a confirmation bias. You will also study the causes and effects of police wearing body cameras. Additionally, you will read arguments for and against mandatory voting and whether community college should be free.

The assignments in the course include reading, writing, and analysis exercises, as well as discussions. In addition, you will write three main essays related to reading response, cause and effect, and argumentation/persuasion. You will also have two major exams: the midterm and the final proctored assessments.
