A. Common Goals for Literature Surveys:

1. to stimulate enjoyment of literary works of the period

2. to encourage an appreciation of the works in relationship to the cultures that produced them and to evaluate their relevance and importance for current society

3. to develop the ability to read literary texts for meaning, structure, and style

4. to develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through the analysis of literary works

B. Objectives Specific to English Literature:

1. to stimulate the student to an intelligent awareness and enjoyment of some important English literary achievements of the period from century A.D. 700 to the present

2. to encourage students to become aware of the bearing of these works upon their culture and themselves

3. to develop the student's abilities in critical reading and writing through various course assignments. 

Our aim is to fulfill the objectives specific to English Literature through virtually every weekly assignment this semester.
