Here is an overview of all of the different types of assignments in the course. You can find the detailed directions for the assignments and the grading rubrics in the module where they are assigned.

Discussion Activities

The discussion activities provide you with an opportunity to deeply reflect on the readings assigned to each module and apply them to a problem. They can prepare you for the essays, final project, and final assessment. Online discussion allows time to weave your thoughts and reflect on the readings and your experiences. All of the posts on the discussion board are required to be thoughtful, reflective, and concise.

Social Annotation

Social annotation assignments ask students to use Hypothesis to “annotate,” or add notes and comments, to specific texts. You will work in small groups to share ideas about specific lines of texts.

Essays

The essays will help you apply and communicate what you have learned in class.There are two major essays, the midterm essay (Modules 1-3) and the formal essay (Modules 4-6). Some sections may include a few short written assignments.

The Final Project

The final project provides you several creative options for exploring your interests further and demonstrating your knowledge in ways that play to your strengths as a student.

The Proctored Final Assessment

The final proctored assessment is a reflection on your learning over the course of the semester.You can find the information on how to take the proctored final assessment in the Proctored Assessments Module.
