Purpose

Learning in online courses may not be any more or less difficult for you than learning in a classroom, but it is different. The orientation will help you understand the differences.

Directions

Whether you are new OR returning to online learning, we recommend you explore Orientation: Getting Started with Online Learning. The orientation provides an introduction to learning in online courses at NOVA Online. Topics covered include how to get started, technology requirements, and resources available to online students. There is a post-test at the end of each section for you to test your knowledge and a frequently-asked-questions (FAQ) section.

Some instructors require that students view these webpages and complete the post tests as part of class assignments. Please be sure to check out your specific course requirements to see if your instructor requires you to complete all or part of the Orientation to Online Learning at NOVA Online.

You will also find a NOVA Online Orientation two-part video providing a general overview for students enrolled in NOVA Online courses. Part 1 of the Orientation will cover Student Services information, focusing on getting started in your courses, accessing your Canvas course site, identifying tips for success, and student support services. Part 2 will show you a sample Canvas course and demonstration the course navigation. The NOVA Online Orientation is highly recommended for students who are new to online learning. For more information and to sign up, please go to NOVA Online Orientation webpage.
