Here is an overview of all of the different types of assignments in the course. You can find the detailed directions for the assignments and the grading rubrics in the module where they are assigned.

Discussion Activities

The discussion activities provide you with an opportunity to deeply reflect on the readings assigned to each module and apply them to a problem. They can prepare you for the projects and the proctored assessments. Online discussion allows time to weave your thoughts and reflect on the readings and your experiences. All of the posts on the discussion board are required to be thoughtful, reflective, and concise.

Students are only required to complete FOUR of the Discussions for their grades. The Module 1 Introduction is required. However, students may choose to complete ANY four of the remaining nine Discussions to complete this requirement. Additionally, students may choose to complete a fifth Discussionfor extra credit.

Creative Project

Instead of a midterm exam, you will be asked to craft an online presentation on a topic focused on some specific aspect of the history of the world before 1500 and based on an array of primary and secondary source evidence. You must have your Creative Project Proposal approved before you begin work on this assignment. See Module 6 for more details on your options for this assignment.

Research Paper

Instead of a final exam, you will be asked to write a 5-6 page research paper n a topic focused on some specific aspect of the history of the world before 1500. You must have your Research Paper Proposal approved before you begin work on this assignment. Parts 1 and 2 of the Annotated Bibliography are also a part of this assignment, and must be complete before you submit your finished Research Paper.
