Major Topics Covered in HIS 280:

Here is an overview of all of the different types of assignments in the course. You can find the detailed directions for the assignments and the grading rubrics in the module where they are assigned.

Discussions

Each response to a discussion question is worth 50 points, and each response to a fellow student is worth 25 points. The average of all of the discussion weeks counts towards 15% of your final average.

Quizzes

The weekly quiz will help you monitor your own learning. If you do well on the quizzes and the discussions, and understand the key terms for this week, you will probably do well on the mid-term and final, which will have similar types of questions.

The quizzes are timed, closed-book quizzes. There are five multiple choice questions. You have 15 minutes to complete each one. You can only take them once. Each quiz is out of 100 points. Your final quiz average counts towards 15% of your final average.

Midterm (Proctored Assessment)

100 points, 22 questions, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, and two essay questions. Two-hour time limit.

Final (Proctored Assessment)

100 points, 22 questions, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, and two essay questions. Two-hour time limit.

Group Presentation

Students will be placed in groups with a selected a topic to work collaboratively on a PowerPoint presentation with their group members. This presentation should be created for high school level students; in other words, prepared as if this presentation were to be taught in a high school history class. HIS 280 students will choose from a list that fits within the context of course themes, including U.S. expansion, the Cold War, and globalization.

As part of this assignment, group members are to evaluate and grade the contributions of each member.
