Course Description

Gives an in-depth exploration of firewalls, Web security, and e-commerce security. Explores firewall concepts, types, topology, and the firewall's relationship to the TCP/IP protocol. Includes client/server architecture, the Web server, HTTP in relation to Web Security, and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Lecture 4 hours per week.


Introduction

This course introduces the student to the process and tools, including firewalls basics, firewalls implementation and deployment, VPN technologies and management, and network security.

Purpose

The purpose of this course is to allow the student to develop additional knowledge and skills on perimeter network defenses, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems, that provide protection to our corporate data assets.

Course Prerequisites and Minimum Technical Requirements for the ITN 260 Course:

ITN 100 or ITN 101, ITN 260. Basic Understanding of networking is highly recommended. Access to the Internet and ability to install VirtualBox. You will also need a basic word processing software.

MINIMUM COMPUTER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  1. A 64-bit version of Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux system as your core operating system that can install and run virtualization products (VirtualBox or VMware free download)
  2. 8 GB of RAM minimum
  3. USB port(s)
  4. 200+ Gigabyte Host System Hard Drive
  5. 50+ Gigabytes of Free Space
  6. Have the local administrator access
