In order to successfully complete this course, you must demonstrate your understanding of the course materials by:

Here is an overview of all of the different types of assignments in the course. You can find the detailed directions for the assignments in the module where they are assigned.

Lectures & Exercises - Technical & Conceptual

On-campus photography courses often provide in-class opportunities for demonstrations, shooting, and questions. The online environment does not have that luxury. Instead, technical and conceptual lecture, resources & exercises are provided for you to familiarize yourself with your camera and practice techniques and then share with your classmates for critiques.

Complete all photography assignments in all Modules. This practice will help you become more familiar with your camera and how it works. Read Lectures & Technical Notes. Review artist resources. Complete Technical Exercise Discussions.

Discussion Activities

The discussion activities provide you with an opportunity review other students' photographs and reflect on their composition, technique, subject and how they satisfy the requirements of the assignment. Online discussion allows time to weave your thoughts and reflect on the readings and your experiences. All of the posts on the discussion board are required to be thoughtful, reflective, and concise.

Completed Technical Exercises require original post in Discussions (selected photos, description, artist highlight, link to Google Album for Exercise) and substantive critique of at least two classmates.

Technical Quizzes

The Module 1-4 quizzes provide a graded vehicle for demonstrating your famiarity of the course information. They also provide assessment preparation. Most quizzes, unless otherwise noted, are not proctored or timed and can be taken multiple times.

Assessments: Proctored (Exam) & Authentic (Project)

The proctored assessment (Exam) provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of the course knowledge. You can find the information on how to take proctored assessments in the Taking Proctored Assessments section of the Syllabus.  You can take the exam only once.

The authentic assessment (Project) gives you an opportunity to build a photo album using the guidelines provided in the assignment. You will be able to demonstrate what you have learned using the course learning materials and assignments and reflect on the comments of your instructor and your classmates.

You will begin with a general area of interest, and then, in phases, narrow and refine your thinking, solve problems, and make decisions. You should NOT have a complete idea to begin with. That will evolve during the process. Start with ideas and conditions or things that matter to you, and then find an appropriate way to convey your thinking visually.
