Each module builds on the previous one, so staying current with the readings, lectures, and assignments will help you succeed throughout the course.
Module assignments include discussions, image analyses, creative activities, and short written responses. These assignments encourage you to engage with the course material, analyze photographs, and apply historical concepts rather than simply memorizing facts. They also help prepare you for the quizzes, the midterm exam, and the final project.
Each module includes a quiz that assesses your understanding of the key photographers, movements, technologies, and concepts covered in the lectures and resources. Quizzes are untimed and may be completed independently. Each quiz may only be taken once.
The midterm exam is a proctored assessment covering the material from Modules 1–6. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the major developments in the history of photography. A study guide will be provided in advance, along with instructions for completing the proctored assessment.
The final project allows you to explore a photographer, movement, process, or issue in the history of photography in greater depth. You will research your chosen topic and present your findings through a visual presentation that incorporates images, historical context, and analysis.
