Student Development (SDV) - College Success Skills is designed to assist students in making a successful transition to college. It provides students with the academic tools for success and teaches the skills of self-management and self-responsibility that relate to being a successful student. In addition, the course helps students learn how to make responsible choices about their academic, personal, and career goals. Information about the College and community resources, the College’s policies and procedures, and the processes of moving effectively through the educational system is also provided. Lecture 1 hour per week.

Prerequisite:

There are no prerequisites for this course.

VCCS policy requires that SDV 100 or 101 be taken within the first 15 credits of enrollment. Enforcement of this policy at NOVA requires students to enroll in SDV within their first semester of attendance unless they meet one of the exemptions outlined below.

This policy applies to all NOVA students in a curricular program of study (students who are planning to complete a degree or certificate at NOVA).

SDV ABLE Exam Information

About the SDV ABLE Exam:

The assessment is free. There are 50 questions that reflect the course content of SDV 100. The assessment may be taken only one time. You will receive your score at the end of your assessment. Credit will be applied, if appropriate, to your permanent record.

Who Is NOT Eligible to take the ABLE Exam?

If you wish to use the assessment results to fulfill the course requirement, you should drop the course before the Census Date for a full tuition refund, or no later than the last day to withdraw without grade penalty.
