The quizzes are composed of multiple choice type questions, True or False type questions, and short essay answer type questions.

How to Answer the Short Essays Questions: In answering the short essays, it is important make use of paragraph breaks to show the components of your responses. Example: when ask to identify and explain 2 types of social of racism with supporting examples. It is inadequate to write:

“Two type of racism are individual and institutional racism”.

This response “identified”, but hardly “explained”, and lacks “supporting example”. Devote a brief paragraph (6-8 sentences) to explaining individual racism and supporting example, and another paragraph (6-8 sentences) to explain institutional racism and supporting example.

8 Discussions

The discussion activities provide you with an opportunity to deeply reflect on the readings assigned to each module and apply them to issue of race and ethnicity. An objective of the discussions is to create interaction among students in order to enhance critical thinking and knowledge of course concepts and theories. They can prepare you for the assignments and the proctored assessments. Online discussion allows time to weave your thoughts and reflect on the readings and contemporary events in race and ethnic relations. All of the posts on the discussion board are required to be thoughtful, reflective, and concise.

The essays allow you to examine matter of race/ethnic relations in the contexts of history, politics, laws, culture, social movements and civic engagement in the real world. You will be able to make links between history and current trends.

2 Group Projects

The ability to work with a group is essential. It can help you develop your communication and teamwork skills. You will be assigned to a small group and work with your group to create TWO presentations to educate an audience/readers.

The first group project provides you with the opportunity to examine the unique issues that are of particular concern to the Chicanos, and the second one allows you to examine minority-police relations in various parts of the country.

Final Course Grade

In order to maintain compliance with our accreditation standards, NOVA Online proctored or major assessments require identity verification. Proctored or major assessments must prove identity, and students must show overall passing levels on those assessments in order to pass the course.

In this online course, if your average score on all proctored or major assessments is a passing percentage of 60 percent or higher, then your grade will be calculated according to the scale in the table below. Otherwise, a final grade of F will be assigned.
