In this course, you will learn about hematology, the study of blood. You will be introduced to techniques for collection, handling and analysis of blood and blood associated tissues. You will also learn the calculations necessary to provide accurate results to your veterinary team. Hematology takes practice, and every time you look at a slide, you will notice something different. Initially, everything "looks the same," but keep looking...there really are many things you can see under the microscope! You will learn through a Midterm and Final exam, an on-campus Practical exam, Lab Reports, Blood Smears as well as Extra Credit assignments. Please take advantage of the clinical moments and external links embedded in the lessons to other internet sites for further information and interesting side-bars. You will also find the AVMA and NVCC Veterinary Technology Program's list of essential skills in this website. Please be sure you complete this list with your mentor. Your job, after completion of this course, is to distinguish normal from abnormal samples, as well as be able to perform in a timely fashion the manual techniques and calculations presented in this course.
